8 Goa return workers suffer from unknown disease, Nipah virus suspected

Balasore: As many as eight migrant workers were left battling for life after they were affected of some mysterious disease Tuesday.

The workers of Nimatgur village under Bhograi block in this district were working in Goa and had returned home a couple of weeks back. While no exact reason was ascertained, locals suspected it was Nipah virus. As per the villagers, two youths of the same village had earlier died after being affected by the disease.

After coming to know of the matter, a team of doctors visited the village and took stock of the situation after the intervention of the district administration. Later, the affected persons were rescued and admitted to Balasore district headquarters hospital.

Reports suggested, they have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for further treatment after their condition worsened. They were treated in an isolated ward at SCB as the disease they are suffering from might be contagious.

They were working at a fast food stall in Goa. So, locals suspected they might be infected with Nipah virus or Swine Flu.
