Lucknow: An 80-year-old woman who could barely walk or speak reportedly died of starvation after being locked inside a house for days together by her drunkard son at Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The matter came to light after, the elderly woman found dead at a government house in the railway colony. She has been identified as Leelawati.
Her body was found about a week after she died at her residence.
Locals suspected foul play and alerted the cops after foul smell started emanating from inside the house. The police then rushed to the spot and found the decomposed body on the bed.
Reportedly, the woman was the wife of an ex-MLC, her son would often leave some eatables before latching the door from outside. Police alleged that there was nothing to eat inside the house and the woman may have died due to starvation and prolonged illness.
However, the accused son has been absconding as the police are unable to contact them. His son was identified as Salil, a railway ticket collector. He also been missing from work from past two months, police said.
