Loisingha: At a time when people of his age require care, 80-year-old Kapil Padhan of Karlipat under this block in Bolangir has been taking care of his orphaned grandson.
After the death of his father and mother, Aditya, 5, has been left in the care of his grandfather. With no help from the administration, Kapil has been running from pillar to post seeking aid for rehabilitation of his grandson.
“At this age, I cannot provide any future to my grandson. He has been living a cursed life after the death of his parents. I plead with the administration to rehabilitate him and provide him education,” Kapil said.
Kapil’s son Kusha Padhan had a love marriage with Urmila of the same village in 2013. Everything was going on fine until Kusha fell in the trap of middlemen who lured him with good wages and took him to Tamil Nadu as a migrant worker.
Since then, there has been no trace of Kusha. Family members assume he might have died as there has been no contact of him since 2014.
With no income source, Urmila also stepped out in search of work. She was engaged as class-IV employee in a court. Meanwhile, she fell in love with a mason of West Bengal and eloped with him.
However, later Kapil got the news that Urmila committed suicide by consuming poison. Till today, it is not known whether Urmila ended her life or was killed. With the help of local police, Kapil managed to save his grandson Aditya from Urmila’s second husband and brought him back home.
However, the elderly man has not been able to provide better living to the boy. “I request the Collector to take immediate steps to rehabilitate Aditya and provide him a better life,” Kapil said.
