Chhatrapur: At least 82 pregnant women have been shifted from their houses to hospitals during cyclone Titli, Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said.
Two more expectant mothers were admitted at hospitals Friday, said Kulange at a press meet Friday.
At least 13 out of 22 blocks in Ganjam district have been badly affected. Around 193 villages have been cut off from the rest of the world due to floods.
Several villages of Aska, Soroda, Dhorakote, Shergarh, Kabisurjyanagar,Ganjam, Chhatrapur, Chikiti, Digapahandi,Patrapur, Hinjli, Purusottampur and Sanakhemundi blocks have been waterlogged.
The vegetable and paddy croplands are completely inundated, he said.
As per the latest reports, 367 villages have been affected and 193 of them have remained cut off.
While the number of families who have been affected by the flood is estimated to be 26,008, a total of 94,265 villagers have been shifted to cyclone shelters, Kulange said.
He said that the rescue and relief work would become easier after the arrival of two choppers from Vishakhapatnam.
Three NDRF teams, four teams of ODRAF, one team each of Navy and Coast Guard are managing the rescue and relief work.
Police and officials of block and panchayat offices have also been involved in the rescue operations.
The Block Development Officer, nodal officer and senior officers are monitoring the rescue efforts.
He said two Army teams would join the operation Saturday.
People at relief camps are being provided with food, drinking water and medicine.
The operations are being carried out in accordance with the CM’s direction through video conference.
“The Deputy Director of Agriculture has been directed to assess any loss caused by the flood. The Additional District Magistrate (General) Kabindra Kumar Sahu is monitoring the operations at Chhatrapur and Ganjam. Project Director DRDA Siddharth Shankar Swain is looking after Aska block and Project Director DUDA Sabyasachi Hota taking care of Hinjli and Shergarh blocks.
Berhampur Sub Collector is in charge of Chikiti, Patrapur, Sanakhemundi and Digapahandi blocks.
Chhatrapur Sub Collector Debabrata Sahu is monitoring the rescue and relief operations in Purusottampur block, he said.
Bhanjnagar Sub Collector Rajendra Minj is monitoring the rescue operations in Sorada, Bhanjnagar, Dharakote and Belaghuntha blocks. Berhampur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Chakraborty Singh Rathore is monitoring the food distribution work, Kulange said.
The Additional District Magistrate Kabindra Kumar Sahoo is monitoring the control room at Chhatrapur.
The Chief District Medical Officer has been directed to monitor health-related issues. OAS (Probation) Jyotika Bhujbal Swagat Das has been given the charge of Purusottampur block.
Subhashis Palta is taking care of Ganjam block while Manaswini Das and Bharati Devi have been given charge of Chatrapur block, he added.
