Bargarh: As many as 83 under trial prisoners (UTPs) tested positive for Covid-19 Saturday at Padampur Sub-Jail of Bargarh district.
According to the jail sources, swab samples of 132 persons including 124 inmates and eight employees of the sub-jail were earlier collected and sent for RT-PCR testing Friday. However, 83 jail inmates were found positive for the virus after reports came in, a jail official said.
Out of the 83 infected prisoners, five have been shifted to Covid care centre setup on the jail premises. An inmate, whose health condition became critical at a later stage, has been put on ventilator support. The sub-jail has been thoroughly sanitised, the official added.

A special team of doctors has been monitoring the health conditions of the infected. If required, they will be shifted to Covid facilities.
Notably, as many as 96 undertrial prisoners had also recently tested positive for Covid-19 at Jharpada Special Jail in Bhubaneswar.
