Bhubaneswar, Feb 4: The state capital is set to join the elite marathon cities of the country – Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata – with the first of its kind 10km run-a-thon here February 15. The event will start at 6.00am from the Kalinga Stadium and go up to Chandrasekharpur and return from there to end at the Stadium.
“We see sports as a way of life and we want to promote the running spirit among the people of Orissa,” Charles Borromeo, legendary athlete and head of Tata Sports said during the unveiling of the logo and website of the event here Wednesday.
Charles said that the event has been recognised by the Orissa Athletic Association (OAA) and the Athletic Federation of India, while the technical officials of the OAA will officiate during the run-a-thon.
“The individual participants can get themselves photographed and also see their timings during the run which will be made available on the official website,” he said.
“This way runners can evaluate their performances and prepare for the future event,” Charles added.
The participants can register online at www.tatasteelbhubaneswarrun.com or at the registration counter at the Kalinga Stadium from Wednesday till February 11. The registration fee is Rs 200 for corporates and Rs 100 for individual participants.
There will be awards in five different categories with the highest prize money of Rs 51,000 for the winner of the 10km run (separate for men and women), organisers said.
