Cuttack: Badambadi police Tuesday claimed to have arrested the mastermind of a mobile phone snatching racket, which was operating in the city here.
Police said they have seized eight mobile phones and a scooter from the arrested Sanjeet Kumar Ray of Janjirimangala.
“Ray and his aides used to snatch mobile phones from people in busy places like Badambadi and SCB Medical College and Hospital. Steps are being taken to arrest other members of the gang,” said city deputy commissioner of police Akhilesvar Singh.
According to police, May 29, Ray had snatched a mobile phone from a Himanshu Sekhar Mishra of Tirtol area in Jagatsinghpur while the latter was on his way to Badambadi bus stand.
Badambadi police had registered a case in this regard as per a complaint lodged by Mishra. Police traced Ray after tracking the stolen phone. Soon a police team led by Badambadi police in-charge Rashmiranjan Mahaptra raided Ray’s hereabout and arrested him.
“Ray was also involved in a few bike-lifting incidents in the city. We have produced him in a local court,” Singh added.
