Space films cast their all-time spell
Bhubaneswar: Fans of space science movie Star Wars Friday celebrated Star Wars Day in memory of George Lucas’ epic space opera which was premiered May 25, 1977.
May 4 was chosen as the commemoration day for the catch phrase ”May the force be with you” as May the Fourth be with you’.
The movie had influenced many film-goers since its first release in 1977 titled Star Wars : A new Hope after which there were a number of sequels and prequels with the latest being the franchise Star Wars: The Last Jedi which was released in 2017 to huge commercial success.
Orissa POST talks to a select star war fans and asks them about the influence of such films on them. Student Lalit Mundhra said although the original movie was released in1977, its sequel trilogy was released recently and became very popular among the audiences.
Lalit said the movie was first of its kind with its special effects which set a trend that continues till this day.
Roshan Bisoi says, “The star war series has been an inspiration to me. It had helped me overcome the bad phase I was passing through. Not only star wars but movies such as Superman, Cast Away, Shawshank Redemption, A beautiful Mind and The Schindler’s List influenced me a lot.”
Hindi movies such as Taare Zameen Par , 3 idiots , Bhaag Milkha Bhag and Chak De India had influence him, added Bisoi.
Dancer Atish Mohapatra says star war characters Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and Han Solo had become favourites of moviegoers. Although the star war films are set in space, they delineate the conflict between good and evil like all other films.
According to author Saurav Mondal, “Star wars or superhero movies impact mind more than anything else. I remember watching Shaktiman and I used to roam around the house in shaktiman outfits.”
