Koraput: The government would strengthen the intelligence wing of the BSF and increase the number of jawans deployed in all Maoist-hit regions of undivided Koraput to address the menace of the left wing extremism, Sukumar Sarangi, BSF DIG (intelligence), who took charge Friday, told media here.
BSF forces have been deployed at various locations of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Nabarangpur districts over last 10 years to speed up the development projects of the government. The jawans have won the confidence of people in several areas by reducing Maoist activists in the districts. If a need arises, BSF camps would be set up at inaccessible areas to curb the menace, Sarangi added.
At present, the BSF would strengthen the intelligence wings in Bijaghati, Langalabeda and Borigi areas in Narayanpatna block, Kumbhariput and Almanda of Bandhugaon block, Dandabadi, Ramgiri, Mahulbhatta of Boiparaiguda block. Ankadeli panchayat in Lamtaput block and other regions close to Andhra Pradesh border. More mobile towers would be installed to reinforce the intelligence department, it was learnt. This apart, civic action camps would be organised and development projects would be launched to create awareness on the harmful effects of the left wing extremism, the DIG said.
