Bhubaneswar: The south-west monsoon which struck Malkangiri district Friday has covered at least nine other districts across the state, Saturday.
The monsoon has further advanced to Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and Gajapati districts and most parts of Rayagada while covering parts of Kalahandi, Puri, Kandhamal, Gajapati and Khurda districts, stated Bhubaneswar Met Centre director HR Biswas.
The weather conditions are favourable for the smooth advancement of monsoon in other parts of Odisha in the next 48 hours, he said.
Meanwhile, a low pressure area has been formed over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coast Friday evening, the director said, adding, it is likely to become well-marked in the next 24 hours and concentrate into a depression during the subsequent 24 hours.
Under its impact, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Bolangiri districts during the next 24 hours, he added.
As the condition of the sea is expected to be very rough, the Met department has advised fishermen against venturing into the sea.
The Met department also predicts thunderstorms with gusty surface wind and thunderbolts at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj in the next 24 hours.
