Bhawanipatna: At least 10 families of Trilochanpur village under Lanjigarh block in Kalahandi district Saturday fled their homes due to threat from left wing extremists.
The ongoing torture and killing of innocent tribals by the ultras compelled them to abandon their ancestral lands and take shelter in nearby villages, it was learnt.
The presence of jawans and safety assurance by the police couldn’t change their decision, a report said.
“We are constantly in touch with the villagers and trying to instill a sense of security among them,” said a police official.
Earlier, the rebels had abducted at least 4 villagers from Lakhpadar village in the district April 20, including a village guard and released them after two days of confinement.
They also shot dead a super-class contractor, identified as Shivshankar Das, while he was taking rest at a temporary camp set up near his construction site in Bajibahali village of the district February 16.
Such incidents triggered panic among the people and made them to flee their native place, said a resident.
