Bolangir: The Bolangir additional district and sessions court Friday rejected the bail plea of Punjilal Meher, the alleged mastermind of sensational Patnagarh parcel bomb explosion that killed newly married Soumya Sekhar Sahu as also his grandmother Jemamani and left Soumya’s newly-wed bride Reema Rani grievously wounded February 23.
During the day, the court completed its hearing on the bail plea of Punjilal and reserved its decision. The lawyer of the accused said his client will. If need be, move the higher court for justice.
It was after much twists and turns that Punjilal was arrested by the Crime Branch. After detailed investigations, police concluded that Punjilal had planned the entire crime to take revenge on the deceased’s mother Sanjukta Sahu, who had replaced him as the Principal of Jyoti Vikas Junior College in Bhainsa.
Police say he planned the crime meticulously. To evade scanning by CCTV at the courier company, he lured an auto-rickshaw driver to dispatch the parcel bomb. The case started as a complicated one and the cops had no lead to follow. On orders from the CM, the CB took up the case and arrested Punjilal. He has been lodged in the Patnagarh Sub-Jail.
Currently, Reema is at the house of her in-laws in Patnagarh after being discharged from the SCB Hospital in Cuttack April 12.
