Bolangir: In a running series, a mentally challenged youth was beaten up by a mob at Badapada in Patnagarh area in this district Wednesday night. The Patnagarh police are yet to establish the victim’s identity.
Villagers spotted the youth loitering in the area and mistook him to be a child lifter. Soon a crowd gathered and questioned him about his identity. Being a mentally challenged, the youth could not reply satisfactorily, leading to the attack on him.
Police came in and saved him from the attackers. The victim youth, who received a severe head injury during the attack, was rushed to a local hospital.
