Bhubaneswar: The central government-run Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1 here has been issued a show cause notice by the state government asking it to explain why it violated an order from the Chief Minister extending the school vacation period.
The order to extend the summer vacation from June 21 to 25 had been issued by the government in view of the summer heat, and the CM made the announcement a day ago, but the school continued to function Thursday. After the CM’s announcement, the state disaster management department had issued a circular to that effect.
Issuing the show cause notice to the principal of the school, the Odisha special relief commissioner Bishnupada Sethi stated, “You are called upon to explain as to why action under Section-51(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, shall not be initiated against you for willful violation of the above order of the government issued to protect the lives of the people in a threatening disaster situation. Your explanation should reach this department within three days failing which it shall be presumed that you have no explanation to offer, and action as per law shall be initiated against you.”
The notice further stated, “You are directed to forthwith comply with the direction of the government regarding extension of summer vacation/closure of all schools in the state up to June 25.”
