Bhubaneswar: India’s national academy of letters, the Sahitya Akademi, Friday announced the names of 23 winners of its Bal Sahitya Puraskar and 21 recipients of the Yuva Puraskar for the year of 2018.
Two Odia writers – Birendra Mohanty and Jayadratha Suna – have found their place in the list recipients of the prestigious Kendriya Sahitya Akademi award for this year.
Writer Birendra will receive the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his anthology of poems Rumku Jhuma, while Suna will be conferred with the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar for his poetry book Shosa.
At the executive board of the Sahitya Akademi approved selection of 23 writers for the Bal Sahitya Puraskar and 21 authors for Yuva Puraskar for the years of 2018 at a meeting in Guwahati Friday under the chairmanship of its president Dr Chandrasekhar Kambar, the Ackademi.
The winners of both categories will be conferred with copper plaques and cheque worth Rs 50,000 each at a special function to be held on the occasion of Children’s Day, November 14.
The Akademi announced Yuva Puraskar in 21 languages (no book in English language was found suitable for the award). Ten books of poetry, seven of short stories, three novels and a play have been selected for the prestigious award. Poetry dominates Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar this year.
