Balisankara: Residents of the area have warned of a massive agitation if the Dudhunganal bridge here in Sundargarh district is not widened.
According to them, the bridge has turned into a death trap because of its narrow width which leads to accidents. Four persons have died in accidents in the past one year.
Expressing resentment, local residents have urged the administration to renovate the bridge and widen it..
In an accident last month, a brother and sister from Telijor village were killed.
At that time, locals had staged a road blockade demanding immediate steps to widen the bridge. Administrative officials rushed to the spot and pacified the villagers who were promised the bridge would be renovated, but nothing was done.
They said that hundreds of vehicles ply on the state highway-30 from Rourkela and other parts on a daily. With Chhatisgarh and Jharkhand sharing borders with this block, a good number of heavy vehicles also ply on this road.
