Bhubaneswar: Union textiles minister Smriti Irani arrived here Tuesday morning on a one-day visit with a packed schedule. Landing at the airport here 9 am, she headed straight to the Bunakar Seva Kendra at Saheed Nagar to interact with weavers and observe the activities there.
Later, she attended an intellectuals’ meet at Hotel New Marion in the city. She was scheduled to address the media at the state BJP headquarters in the afternoon.
Thereafter, she would attend a ‘Sampark for Samarthan’ (contact for support) programme, launched by the party’s national president Amit Shah May 29, to mark four years of the BJP government at the Center.
She was also expected to join the party leaders in the observance of the ‘black day’ to mark the Emergency clamped on the nation by the then Congress government led by Indira Gandhi June 25, 1975.
The minister would fly back to Delhi in the evening, sources in BJP state party office said.
