Phulbani: A Vigilance Court Wednesday sentenced the former headmaster of Jagadi Project Upper Primary School for five years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5.5 lakh for misappropriating government funds.
The accused, Naresh Kumar Diggal, was the headmaster of the UP school five years ago.
According to the case, a total of Rs 8,96,400 was sanctioned under the district project coordination of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) for the construction of a new school building during the financial year 2009-10.
But Diggal used only Rs 4,09,192 for the construction and the rest was deposited in his bank account.
In 2014, the Phulbani Anti-corruption Department filed a case against the headmaster and the president of the school over fund misappropriation.
While hearing the case Wednesday, the court acquitted the school president.
