Talcher: A group of students of the Talcher ITI in Angul district staged a demonstration at the institute in protest against an alleged assault on a student by their Mathematics teacher Friday.
The Talcher Yuva Chhatra Sangathan led a dharna in front of the ITI college after locking the main gate. The students demanded immediate action against the teacher. They also demanded that the institute stop online exams and conduct offline exams. Police have been deployed on the college premises.
The protesters say some students were having a discussion on their demand for offline exams. Noticing this, Maths teacher A. Roul who was passing got angry. He confronted the students, chased them and canned them in the college premises, students alleged.
The students lodged a complaint at the Talcher Police Station against the teacher.
Roul had allegedly threatened students that he would fail them in exams if they did not heed his words, and kept demanding an end to online exams.
