Varanasi: BJP lawmaker Surendra Singh, MLA from Bairia in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh Saturday said that even Lord Ram won’t be able to prevent incidents of rape.
The MLA as speaking at a public event in Ballia, Saturday. “Main daawe ke saath keh sakta hun ki Bhagwan Ram bhi aa jayenge to yeh ghatna (rape) par niyantran kar pana sambhav nahin hai. Yeh samaj ka swabhavik pradushan hai, (I can say with surety that such incidents (rapes) cannot be checked even if Lord Ram comes to Earth. Such incidents are natural pollution of the society),” Singh told when asked to comment on the recent incidents of molestation in Unnao.
The lawmaker had earlier raised a controversy by blaming parents and mobile phones for rising rape cases in the country.
“I can say this with full confidence that even Lord Ram will not be able to prevent such incidents. This is natural pollution, which has not left anybody untouched. It is people’s responsibility to treat others as their family, as their sisters. We can only control it through values, not the constitution,” Mr Singh told.
The motormouth BJP lawmaker had earlier made statements like “prostitutes are better than government officers.”
“Such incidents could be controlled only by inculcating ‘sanskar’ (good character) among men, women and children and not through ‘Samvidhan’ (Constitution),” he further added.
Singh also said that dreaded criminals are being eliminated during police encounters, but rapists could not be treated in a similar manner. They are only put behind bars and shot encounter, he said.
In the recent past, Mr Singh had come out in support of another BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is in Sitapur jail as an accused in the Unnao rape case. He had said no one can rape a mother of three children.
“I am speaking from the psychological point of view; no one can rape a mother of three children. It is not possible, this is a conspiracy against him (Kuldeep Singh Sengar),” he told adding, “Yes maybe her father was thrashed by some people but I refuse to believe rape charge.”
Known for making contentious comments, Singh had earlier called West Bengal chief minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee ‘Surpanakha’, sister of demon king Ravana and Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi as the reincarnation of Lord Ram.
