Anandapur: The supporting bearing from one of the pillars of Baitarani bridge here in Keonjhar district was displaced, posing threat to the bridge and commuters.
Bijay Kumar Mishra, president of Dhanei Committee, a local organisation, first noticed it Thursday evening and he immediately informed the authorities.
Officials and engineers visited the bridge and inspected the spot Friday. Refuting any possible danger to the bridge, an official of Anandapur Road and Building department said steps would be taken very soon to get the bearing fixed.
Besides, a portion of the side protective wall at the affected spot has also gone down three to four inches, showing up a crack.
Local people said some holes were made recently on the bridge to let the rain water pass through them. They felt the vibrations of drilling might have resulted in the displacement.
However, they observed that if no immediate steps are taken, a major mishap might happen any time.
