Bhubaneswar: The nation’s first Skill Training Institute’s foundation stone will be laid here July 16 and it is expected to be operationalised in two years.
The institute to be set up at a cost of `175 crore will impart training to trainers. Initially, the institute will offer training in five trades with 30 trainers and later Certificate and Diploma courses will be added.
“The foundation stone of the country’s first National Skill Training Institute will be laid by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at Barang July 16,” Jaikant Singh, Head (MIS & Monitoring), NSDC said, while announcing the date for the ‘India Skills Regional Competitions (East) 2018’ which is likely to start July 15 and continue for three days.
The state has offered five acres for the greenfield project which will be the hub for hybrid skill training programmes comprising long term, short term and advance diploma category programmes.
Jaikant said this is the first time they are hosting interstate competitions in the region and have already done it in other zones.
Initiatives like recognition of prior learning with best in class employers, new framework for apprenticeship training, guidelines for the training of trainers and training of assessors will also be launched during the event, the official added.
“We have felicitated about 50 participants, two from each trade from each zone, as winners in competitions and are hopeful to felicitate 54 participants’ from 27 trades. One participant will be selected as the winner and the second as runner-up,” another official said.
Jaikant said the event would be an eye-opener for participants as they have plans for putting up stalls from various sectors to educate visitors as well as participants.
“Thirty stalls from various sectors will be opened during three-day event and there will be experts to counsel visitors. Bankers will also take part in the event to provide information on government schemes which offer financial support to beginners,” the official said.
