Bolangir: Tension prevailed at Rajendra (Autonomous) College here Thursday as hundreds of students staged a demonstration and blocked the college road over the assault on a Plus III final year student Raja Majhi by three outsiders July 10.
The irate students first staged a demonstration outside the college’s gate and later blocked the college road. Majhi was waylaid by the three when he was walking with his classmates near the science department, they alleged.
The outsiders picked up a fight with him and assaulted him with iron bars and a spade. They even snatched away his wallet containing his Rs 5,000, two ATM cards and an Aadhaar card before fleeing.
Later, Majhi lodged a complaint with principal Binay Kumar Jena and the Town police station. Earlier, some outsiders had attacked reader Rabi Shankar Pandia of the Commerce department, the agitating students said.
Town IIC Gokulananda Sahu and principal Jena rushed to the spot and held talks with the agitating students and urged them to withdraw the protest. The students demanded deployment of security guards on the premises and relented.
