Bhubaneswar: The Fisheries department Sunday decided to collect marine fish samples from the markets of coastal districts. The decision was taken after formalin was detected in pomfret fish whose sample was collected from the Unit-VI market in the state capital.
Sources said, as the pompfret is a sea fish the department will check other saline water fish in the state if formalin is injected or not.
The samples will be collected from different markets of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Balasore etc. It will be sent for chemical examination using formalin testing kits provided by CIFRI, Barrackpore in West Bengal.
A 12-member team headed by the Joint Director Fisheries P R Rout have collected different fish samples and have sent it for testing.
