Bhadrak: Twelve days passed since a student Debasmita Mallick (13) from Chudakuti Dahipur village under Dhamnagar police limits had died due to alleged medical negligence at Bhadrak district headquarters hospital.
It was alleged that no action was taken against the errant hospital staff and a doctor even though an investigation was conducted by the ADMO into the matter.
Meanwhile, a rights activist from Sonepur, Srikumar Mohant, took up the issue with the ministry of women and child development (MWCD) through its centralised public grievances, redress and monitoring system Saturday.
Mohant urged the ministry for provision of Rs 10 lakh compensation for the bereaved family.
The case of Debasmita’s death was also taken up with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
Various outfits expressed hopes for justice to the bereaved family.
Abhimanyu Mallick, Debasmita’s father, recorded his statement before ADMO Dillip Khuntia of the district headquarters hospital July 5.
Abhimanyu alleged how staff nurses, attendants and outdoor doctors used to sleep in their rooms at night while he kept on knocking the doors of all rooms, but nobody came out to help his daughter.
Debasmita’s relatives like Bikram Mallick, Amulya Mallick and Chagalu Mallick had also recorded their statements.
During the investigation, Dr Dipankar Mujherjee, staff nurses Banita Panda and Sanjulata Lenka and attendant Karunakar Behera were present.
