Rayagada/Chandrapur: Many bridges and roads were washed away due to the incessant rainfall since the last two days in the tribal-dominated areas of Rayagada block.
Many regions have been cut-off from the mainland as flash floods occurred in most parts of the district. Vehicular movement to the district came to a standstill due to the collapse of bridges.
Moreover, waterlogging added to the woes of the netizens.
A bridge in Bissamcuttack block was washed away, giving a tough time to the locals. Similarly, a bridge connecting Hatamuniguda-Paikadakulaguda has also been washed away in flash floods. On the other hand, the Bhejipadar canal overflowed.
As many as 30 villages especially, Paikadakulaguda, Silipanga, Baksisiripur, Badalima, Thuapadi, Bhejipadar, Kutragad and Hukumatala have been cut-off from the rest of the world.
Meanwhile, a man was feared drowned while his brother has been rescued while they were crossing a canal at Marka canal in Bissamcuttack. The missing man was identified as Mangulu Praska (25).
According to reports, Mangulu and his brother Kamalu had gone to Bissamcuttack for some work. When they were returning home after finishing their work, the canal connecting their village was overflowing. While trying to cross the canal, the two brothers have been washed away.
While Kamlu managed to swim to the shore, Mangulu is still missing.
After getting information, locals and fire brigade personnel launched a search operation in the canal. However, there was no trace of Mangulu.
Similar was the condition of residents of Chandipur block residents as water overflowed upto seven feet over the bridges. Piskapanga, Turiguda,
Gelpada, Hembruru, Kodisur, Gendabaghu and other villages under this block were submerged in the flood water, reports said.
On the other hand, the locals of Gunpur-Gumuda-Gudari were out of reach due to the flood like situation in the villages. Meanwhile, the administration warned the residents to take shelter in safe places as the rainfall is likely to lash for another 24 hours.
