Kendrapara: Kendrapara Town police Friday arrested a 26-year-old youth, Dillip Kumar Behera, son of Jagannath Behera, a resident of Jagulaipada under Sadar police station limits, for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl under the Brahma Taladhawaj chariot on Ratha danda near Mausima temple here.
Tapan Kumar Nayak, IIC of Kendrapara Town police station, said the victim, a student of class IV, was watching a cultural programme with her aunt and her elder sister near Mausima temple after darshan of Lord Baladevjew, Maa Sudhadra and Jagannath at Adapa mandap in the temple Thursday evening when she was forcibly taken by Behera. Later, the accused raped the girl under the charamala (staircase) of the Brahma Taladhwaj chariot taking advantage of darkness.
The victim was rescued by locals, after she cried out. They also nabbed the Behera and handed him over to police. The victim’s aunt lodged an FIR at Kendrapara town police station against the accused, a co-villager of the complainant .
Acting on the FIR, Town police registered a case (no-104/18) under Sections 376(2)(i) of IPC and 6 of POCSO Act, 2012, Nayak said.
The accused and the victim were sent for medical examination to District headquarters hospital by Town police Friday.
Behra was earlier booked in September last year for allegedly to attempting to rape a 9-year-old girl near Kapaleswar Panchayat office at Haladidiha village under Sadar police station on the Cuttack–Chandabali state highway . Sadar police had registered a case (no -278/17) under Sections 376, 511 of IPC and 8 of POCSO Act against him.

Phulbani: Khajuripada police arrested a youth Friday for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl. Sources said, the youth took her away while she was asleep and raped her. The matter came to light after her grandfather lodged a complaint with police Friday. Acting on the complaint, police swung into action and arrested the youth identified as Prakash Chandra Kanhar.
