Sundargarh: The upper primary school students in Amgobha village under Kutra block in this district were in for a surprise when Collector Surendra Kumar Meena had mid-day meal with them Tuesday.
Meena, during his visit to the school went around different classrooms, interacted with students and also took a class. He was accompanied by officials including district education officer Dhruba Charan Behera and Additional SP Rabinarayan Barik.
“The collector had come to inspect the quality of food being served to the students. His gesture of having food with children will also send a message to other schools and they would be careful about the quality of mid-day meal,” said Behera, adding that the students were delighted after finding the Collector among them.
“It was beyond our imagination that someday our Collector would sit and eat with us. We are very much inspired by his gesture,” a student said.
Earlier, Collector of Gajapati Anupam Shaha and Collector of Puri Aravind Agarwal took classes for students in Mahendragiri Municipal High School and Satyavadi Vana Vidyalaya in Sakhigopal respectively.
