Bhubaneswar: Expressing concern over frequent waterlogging on National Highway (NH) 16 in front of Iskcon temple here, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has served show-cause notices on the temple and Hotel Presidency authorities here.
The notice (dated 25.7.2018) has been issued to the president of the Iskcon temple over encroachment and unauthorised construction of shops on the land earmarked as ‘right of way’ adjoining the NH. “The encroachment along the NH prevents flow of water and causes insanitary condition in the area,” reads the notice.
The civic body has asked the temple president to show cause as to why action shall not be initiated against him for unauthorised encroachment and utilisation of the space reserved for ‘right of way’ as shops.
Similarly, the manager of Hotel Presidency has been asked to show cause for illegal parking on the ‘right of way’, discharging sewage causing insanitary condition in the area and installing a
generator on government land near the hotel.
“The manager has been asked to show cause within seven days of the receipt of the notice as to why action shall not be taken against him,” BMC sources said.
The civic body has also written to the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) urging it to inspect the functioning of the sewage treatment plant (STP) and take appropriate steps if found it non-functional.
This apart, an inspection team of the civic body seized materials of a marble showroom located along the same stretch dumped on the road ‘right of way’.
