New Delhi: In a bid to make the cut for next month’s Asian Games, Odisha woman hurdler Jauna Murmu will undergo the confirmatory trials at NIS Patiala, August 15.
Jauna qualified for the Asiad in the 400m hurdles after securing a gold at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Guwahati, last month. She clocked 57.02 seconds, surpassing the meet’s previous best of 57.21 seconds. However, while naming the athletics team, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) had said that 11 of them would have to go through confirmatory trials once more to cement their selection. Jauna’s name featured on that list.
Among others who will have to go through trials are middle-distance runner Tintu Luka of Kerala. She has not competed this year as she was recovering from a heel injury. She along with high jumper B Chetan and long jumpers Nayana James and Neena Pinto will take the trial at Thiruvananthapuram, also on August 15.
Among others Sandeep Kumari (discus throw), Anu Rani (javelin throw) and Naveen Chikara (shot put) have been told to undergo the confirmatory trials along with Jauna, at NIS Patiala.
