Keonjhar: Four persons were killed and one critically injured after the car they were travelling in ran into a roadside tree at Maidankel near Sadar in this district late Monday night.
The deceased have been identified as Principal of Government College of Engineering Kalpatru Tirthabasi Parida, Vice-Principal of Gayatri College Chaitanya Bikash Sahoo and a BSNL employee Prasant Kumar Patra and Rakesh Kumar Guru.
Injured Kamalakshya Parida, who was driving the vehicle, was rushed to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition, sources said.
According to reports, the mishap occurred at around 2 am while the five were returning after attending a ‘Satsang’, a religious programme, at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district.
On being informed, Sadar police officials along with fire personnel rushed to the spot and retrieved the dead and rescued Kamalakshya, who is said to have sustained multiples fractures.
“While the five were returning from Rairangpur, attending a Satsang, the driver of the car lost control on the wheels and hit a roadside tree,” said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Sadar Police Station, Sriharsh Mishra.
Kamalakshya is undergoing treatment at Keonjhar DHH.
