Bhubaneswar: Fashion designer Sabyasachi Satpathy after his Big Boss stint is making great strides in the fashion industry and showcasing the Odia culture at fashion shows.
Recently his designs based on the theme of Sadhaba Bohu were showcased by models at the three-day Patna Fashion Week at Patna which concluded August 12.
By Sadhaba Bohus we mean the wife of ancient mariners (Sabhaba) from the erstwhile Kalinga empire, now Odisha, who established trade links with Bali, Java and Sumatra. The collection rose from this thought.
Based on the theme, the male models were dressed in pure hand woven tribal Kotpad fabrics while the female models were draped in Kotpad Saura and Dongria tribal sarees in Odia style, the Sadhaba Bohu way.
Actress and model Arshi Khan was the showstopper. “It was one amazing experience to have her walk in the saree. She looked gorgeous,” Sabyasachi said about Arshi who was also his co-contestant of last season’s Big Boss.
Talking about the collection under his brand ‘Keembdanti’, the designer said, “I wanted to create something comfortable that people could wear on a regular basis and yet have a culturally rich feel to it. This worked just fine and the response has been overwhelming. The audience at the show went crazy when the models started walking down the ramp,” said a gleeful Sabyasachi.
Earlier, he had showcased Odisha’s tribal fabrics like Kotpad Dongaria and Soura besides Sambalpuri designs at the Navi Mumbai fashion week in Mumbai. Interestingly, Arshi Khan is the regular presence in Sabyasachi Satpathy’s fashion shows.
