Rourkela, Dec 8: Five Maoist operatives Monday surrendered before the security personnel at Bonai in Sundargarh district, police said.
The armed ultras including two women were Karan alias Soma Munda, Rabi alias Dulai Chempa, Raju alias Johan Tirky, Anita Naik alias Karbi and Surbali Naik, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Bonai, R Panigrahi said. Surbali was coerced to join the cadre when she was 13.
She claimed that she was attracted towards Maoist ideology but the ultras had deviated from that and there was no respect for women cadres. The Maoists were involved in many incidents between 2011-2012 including burning of vehicles at Chunaghati area, blasting of forest beat house at Topadihi and railway tracks at Renjda and an encounter with security forces in Langalakanta. The two women were part of their cultural team whose duty was to spread the Maoist ideology through various activities.
