Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Monday said heavy rainfall will occur in many places of the state during the next 24 hours.
According to a press bulletin issued by the Bhubaneswar Met Centre, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at a few places over north Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabrangpur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Nuapada and Kalahandi districts.
Similarly, extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabrangpur districts in next 24 hours.
“Rains continuing in Odisha and various places are experiencing rainfall. But, no untoward situation has been reported till date,” said Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi here at Secretariat.
As more rain is expected, the state government issued necessary instructions to district administrations. Fishermen have been prohibited from venturing into the sea, he said.
Asked about reports of damage caused due to heavy rainfall occurred earlier, the SRC said the concerned district administrations have prepared the reports. “After receipt of the report, we will provide compensation to the affected people as per norms,” Sethi added.
The average rainfall of the state in the last 24 hours was 29.2 mm. Five districts have received average rainfall between 50 mm and 100 mm. The districts are Sundargarh- 87 mm, Malkanagiri- 84.9 mm, Koraput- 65 mm, Jharsuguda- 56.1 mm and Balasore- 54.3 mm.
Ten more districts which received rainfall between 25 mm and 50 mm while the average rainfall in remaining 15 districts was below 25 mm.
