On its way to Bala, the vehicle got stuck in mud as the road was damaged after incessant rain. Hearing about the incident, locals reached the spot. Later, a tractor was engaged to pull the ambulance out of the mud.
The van reached the village four hours later and took the patient to Bhanda hospital. However, the woman delivered a baby inside the ambulance near Phulkanlei. Both the mother and the baby were hospitalized and the doctors said the two are doing well.
Locals urged the administration to mend the road immediately in view of the difficulties they faced.
Ambulance failure: Pregnant woman carried on bike
Nabarangpur: In yet another case of ambulance failure, a pregnant woman was carried on a motorcycle from a remote village in the district to the hospital after the vehicle driver failed to reach the pick-up location on Friday.
The incident took place today morning at Puralubhata village under Jharigaon police limits in the district after the woman developed labour pain and her family contacted the 108 ambulance service.
However, the driver expressed his inability to reach the village due to a non-motorable road.
