Rayagada, March 2: Collector Jagannath Mohanty Monday constituted a two-member committee to conduct an inquiry into allegations made against the school principal by students of Ekalavya Model School at Siriguda on the outskirts of Rayagada town.
Jagannath directed the team comprising district social welfare officer BSBN Bag and child development project officer Pushapanjali Mishra to go to the school and hold talks with the students. He further directed the team to inspect various facilities being provided to the students.
Mohanty asked the officials to probe the allegations labelled by the students against the principal and submit a report to him.
The step comes in the wake of a group of students of the school Saturday accusing the principal of harassing them. They had alleged that the principal was involved in largescale irregularities and that he had been misbehaving with girl students.
The collector took the action after a BJP delegation met him during a public grievances redressal cell hearing Monday and made a complaint against school authorities.
As the same delegation had visited the school Sunday and inquired the matter, its members apprised the collector about their findings.
They told the collector that the students of the school are not being served proper food. They further alleged that the school principal had asked several girl students to have physical relation with him and threatened to rusticate them if they did not do so.
The BJP delegation, which included Shiva Shankar Ullaka, Sripal Jain, Laxmi Pattanaik, Bhaskar Pattanaik, N N Padhi,Tilak Choudhury, Debasis Panda, Manoranjan Pattanaik and Santosh Kumar Satpathy, urged Mohanty to take strong action in the matter.
The collector formed a two-member team to conduct probe into the allegations.
