Jeypore: There was no negligence in treatment of the minor girl of Kunduli and she had committed suicide under stress, argued special government lawyer Prabhakar Patnaik Sunday at the district court here.
While appearing before the inquiry commissioner Bidyut Kumar Mishra on the court premises, Patnaik said the victim, after allegedly being raped, first went to Kunduli hospital and later lodged a complaint with Pottangi police.
Taking up the matter seriously, the police engaged a woman police officer with her. The victim was also given free medical treatment at Koraput district headquarters hospital as well as at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. She ended her life after failing to handle pressure, the government lawyer said after the argument.
About 15 witnesses on behalf of the government including doctors, police, forensic team members and handwriting experts and four relatives of the deceased deposed before Koraput district and sessions judge-cum-commissioner Bidyut Kumar Mishra in the case.
The duration of the commission would end September 25 and it would submit its report to the home department before that time, said Patnaik.
The Class IX girl of Kunduli area under Pottangi police station was allegedly raped October 10, 2017. Four jawans were involved in the crime, alleged the girl’s family and added that she committed suicide failing to get justice. Taking the matter seriously, the state government constituted a commission to probe the matter.
No more witnesses would appear before the commission and the probe report is awaited, Patnaik said.
