New Delhi: The Election Commission of India Monday convened a meeting with the representatives of national parties and recognised regional political parties here to discuss on the forthcoming elections and various electoral reforms.
The agenda for the meeting included discussion on the fidelity of electoral rolls. ECI has invited the views of the parties on measures to improve the accuracy, transperancy and inclusivity of electoral rolls in view of the upcoming elections to the Lok Sabha and the State Assemblies.
In the meeting held at Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra here, the EC took suggestions from all the political parties on various issues regarding the forthcoming elections.
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP, Pinaki Mishra, said that one of the main agenda of the meeting was to discuss on the expenditures of political parties during election. “Steps to control campaigning over social media was also in the agenda,” he added.
He further said that some parties like BSP, Congress and TMC have demanded ballot paper system for the elections.
“The BJD supported VVPat. We feel that this is the best system for elections. However, political parties like BSP, Congress and TMC have demanded holding elections on the ballot papers,” Pinaki Mishra said.
According to reports, around 40 parties took part in the meeting called by Election Commission.
