Bhubaneswar: Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) has directed the colleges affiliated to it to install bio-metric devices for recording attendance of students from this academic session.
This will help avert situations like discrepancies between attendance records and claims of students. The bio-metric system would enhance transparency and ensure discipline among students.
Many private institutions and universities of the state have introduced bio-metric system for attendance of teaching and non-teaching staff. However, installing such a system for the students will be a first.
Revenue divisional commissioner and Vice Chancellor-in-charge, BPUT DV Swamy said, “The decision was taken at an academic council meeting. The university management board comprising representatives of nine government engineering and management colleges, 16 private pharmacy colleges, 124 private engineering colleges and, some management and architecture colleges have welcomed this decision.”
