Bhubaneswar: A minor girl student ended her life by jumping off the terrace of a three-storey building near Acharya Harihara College in Niladri Vihar under Chandrasekharpur police station limits here late Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Ambika Jena, 17, of Badapadana village in Keonjhar. Jena, a student of digital and print animation, was staying in a ladies hostel (Plot No.155) near the District Information Center at Niladri Vihar. She had joined the course a few months back.
According to sources, the girl was in a relationship with a guy whose identity is yet to be ascertained by the police. She was reportedly in shock after the relationship broke up. She went to the terrace of the hostel building when everyone was asleep and cut her wrists before taking a plunge. According to the victim’s friends, she chatted with her ex before taking the extreme step.
The locals rushed her to KIMS Hospital where the doctors declared her ‘brought dead’. On being alerted, police reached the hospital and seized the body. The autopsy was conducted at the Capital Hospital Friday. Later, her body was handed over to her family members, who denied having any knowledge of the alleged relationship.
The police have registered a case (61/18) of unnatural death and are investigating into the matter further.
