Boinda: A bear was run over by a goods train near Khalapala level crossing under Handapa forest range in Angul district in the wee hours of Saturday.
The bear aged about 10 was crossing the railway track for a nearby village when an Angul-bound goods train from Sambalpur hit it.
Locals found the bear lying dead on the track and informed Handapa forest officials. A team led by Handapa forest ranger Chaitanya Behera rushed to the spot and seized the carcass before sending it for post-mortem.
