Kendrapara: A rape accused Sunday escaped from the custody of policemen while being placed under treatment at Kendrapara district headquarters hospital (DHH).
The accused was identified as Raju Jena of Bhekta village near Talchua Marine in this district.
According to the case diary, Jena was accused of abducting a girl of his locality and raping her.
After hearing the ordeal of the girl, her family members had thrashed him before lodging a complaint at the police station.
Later, the police arrested Raju and he was undergoing treatment at the Kendrapara district hospital from where he escaped, sources said.
A manhunt has been launched and we will arrest him again, police said.
