Bhubaneswar: A 19-year-old youth was injured when unidentified miscreants opened fire at him at the Tankapani bridge under Sahid Nagar police station limits here Sunday afternoon.
The victim, identified as Sushant Kumar Bhoi, is a resident of Taila Bhoi Sahi in Sisupalagarh area under Dhauli police station limits. Sushant is a student of Pratap Sasan (Degree) College at Balakati. His father Parsuram Bhoi works as home guard in the Commissionerate Police.
According to sources, four persons came by a car while Bhoi was travelling on his bike on the Kuakhai bandha. The miscreants allegedly tried to snatch the bike from him which led to a scuffle. However, they left the motorcycle at the spot.
Later, they opened fire at Bhoi from behind. Two bullets hit his back near the shoulder while one pierced his thigh. He was rushed to Capital Hospital where he underwent treatment before being shifted to Trinity Hospital near Bhoi Sahiby.
His family members alleged that Bhoi left home after receiving a phone call from some unknown person.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kishore Chandra Mund, with the joint assistance of Sahid Nagar Police and the Dhauli Police were on the hunt for the culprits.
Meanwhile, Commissioner, Satyajit Mohanty , himself visited the spot and also enquired about the condition of the victim after meeting him at the hospital. The city has turned a safe haven for criminals as incidents of serious crimes like murder, loot, shooting and suspicious death have been occurring regularly for the past 30 days.
