Bhadrak: Eminent freedom fighter Goura Chandra Mohapatra Tuesday passed away at the district headquarters hospital here due to old age ailment. He was 104.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of the veteran freedom fighter.
Expressing grief over the demise of the centenarian, Chief Minister Naaveen Patnaik said, “Mohapatra, as a true Gandhian, dedicated his entire life for the promotion of Gandhian values and social causes. In his death, we lost one of the last pillars of the freedom movement.” The CM conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab also condoled the death.
“I am very sad to hear about the demise of eminent freedom fighter Goura Chandra Mahapatra. He was not only a literary person and educationist but was a social reformer. During my stay in Bhadrak, I came in close contact with him and his family. I pray his soul rest in peace. I share my grief his family members,” said Mahatab.
Health Minister Pratap Jena in his condolence message said, “Very sad to hear about the demise of eminent freedom fighter Goura Chandra Mahapatra.”
Mohapatra was the youngest prisoner of Berhampur jail in 1942, it was learnt.
