Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to lash several parts of Odisha till Friday due to the formation of a low pressure area Tuesday over the Bay of Bengal, the Met department said.
The low pressure area, formed over east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, is likely to become more marked and concentrate into a depression in next 36-hours, the Meteorological Centre here said Tuesday.
Under its impact, heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some places over coastal districts of the state Wednesday. Similarly, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to lash some places in south and coastal parts with possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in some places of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Koraput districts Thursday and Friday, it said.
Thereafter, the intensity of rainfall is likely to decline with the likelihood of downpour in isolated places of Nuapada, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi and north interior region, it said.
In view of adverse weather conditions, the MeT office advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast till Friday. The fresh spell of low pressure has taken shape after Odisha was battered by heavy downpour due to a series of low pressure since beginning of August.
