Bhubaneswar: Second seed Simran Neha Ekka of Odisha emerged U-16 girls’ singles champion while compatriot Ashish Kumar Parida clinched the boy’s singles crown in the same age category of the Gurukul AITA-OTA Championship Series tennis tournament which concluded here, Sunday.
In the boys’ final, Ashish defeated statemate Sangram Kumar Patra 6-4, 6-0 in straight sets dominating proceedings from the start. Even though the first set was a close affair in the second, Ashish completely dominated proceedings.
Simran too had an easy final outing romping home 6-2, 6-2 against Aditi Pradhan of Jharkhand. She broke her rival two times in each of the sets. Meanwhile, both Ashish and Simran will get 15 AITA ranking points each.
OVA office-bearers
Subodh Kumar Routray was elected as the president of the Odisha Volleyball Association (OVA) after through the ballot after elections were conducted in the AGM at the hall of Odisha Olympic Association in Cuttack, Sunday.
Gaganendu Dash and Manoranjan Mohanty have been appointed as the honorary secretary and the treasurer respectively while the two join secretaries chosen are Aditya Kumar Acharya and Jagdish Chandra Behera. The vice-presidents appointed are Syed Akmal Ali, Janardan Dash, Bhabani Prasad Panda, Kisore Kumar Biswal, Sibaprasad Tripathy and Dulal Chandra Pradhan.
