Bhawanipatna: Going by the deteriorating healthcare services in the State, a pregnant woman Friday had to be carried on a cot for four kilometers after ambulance failed to reach the village due to absence of motorable road.
According to sources, Basanti Jani (25), wife of Ram Jani (32) of Supel village of Banapahad Ghera panchayat under Junagarh block in Kalahandi district complained of labour pain Friday morning following which her husband called up 180 ambulance service.
However, the ambulance could not reach the village and halted at Bandoguda Chhak, nearly 4km away from the village, due to bad road. With no option left, family members put her on a coat and ferried the expectant mother for four kilometers to reach near the ambulance from where she was rushed to Bhawanipatna district headquarters hospital (DHH) on the ambulance.
Her condition remained critical till the last reports came in. The incident comes ahead of scheduled visit of Chief Minister (CM) Naveen Patnaik and Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to the district.
