Bhubaneswar: Eminent Odia filmmaker Amiya Ranjan Patnaik passed away Friday morning, leaving behind a gaping hole in the Ollywood industry. The untimely demise of the well known filmmaker has shocked the entire Odia film industry.
Patnaik breathed his last while undergoing treatment in a private hospital in New Delhi following prolonged illness.
The powerhouse of talent will always be remembered for his innumerable hit movies in the 1980s.
It may be mentioned here that Patnaik made his directorial debut with the film ‘Mamata Mage Mula’ in the year 1985. It was also his first movie as a producer.
Since then, he has produced blockbusters like Hakim Babu (1985), Raja Rani (1989), Asuchi Mo Kalia Suna (1989), Paradeshi Babu (1999) and Babu I Love You (2005). Hakim Babu went to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Odia that year.
In 2015, Patnaik again made a comeback as the director with Tulasi Apa, the biopic on veteran social activist and Padma Shri recipient Tulasi Munda. The movie was screened at several film festivals and finally got a theatrical release in 2017.
Patnaik’s contribution has left a mark on Ollywood industry and his death comes as an extremely sad news for several fans and the entire film fraternity.
