Bolangir: A dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the Titlagarh Action Committee demanding separate district status to Titlagarh, which is now part of Balangir district has crippled normal life in the town Friday.
For the past two decades, the outfit has been demanding a separate district for Titlagarh. The outfit members say that they have been demanding it for the administrative convenience. People have to come to Bolangir, 70 km from Titlagarh, even for minor office work.
“We have a railway junction, which is an important one under Sambalpur division. Economic activities will get a boost once it is made district. There can be separate planning for it. There are good patches of land, which can be used as commercial hub. The region is also full of natural resources,” said B David, members of the youth mass, Titlagarh.
Krushna Sahu, a President of the action committee said, the band is supported by various social and cultural organization of Titilagrh and peripheral region. Leader and supporters of all political party have assured the committee to extend support for the bandh.
Educational institutions and business establishments remained closed following the 12-hour bandh. Commuters, students and office goers faced a harrowing time with transport services being thrown out of gear.
Vehicular traffic on road has been disrupted due to the bandh.
