BHUBANESWAR: With an aim to create sensitization among public for transforming Bhubaneswar into a smart city, a voluntary organisation named Centre for Child and Women Development (CCWD) in collaboration with European Commission & Action Aid organised a cyclothon in here Sunday.
More than 100 riders marched from Sailashri Vihar Chowk to Redcross Bhwan despite rough weather. Secretary of CCWD Sadshiv Swain said that the main purpose of this event was to create awareness regarding making Bhubaneswar a smart city for everyone. It was also aimed to draw attention of the government to give an ear to the voice of citizens while creating infrastructure and other facilities for them.
The major components of creating consciousness and demand will be construction and maintenance of cycle tracks, improving ecological behavior, increasing the use of cycles for mobility, improving solid waste management systems, ensuring active participation of people in implementing smart city programs and making the smart city inclusive. This would enable all to live a quality life.
Corporators Pritinanda Routray, Monalisha Sahoo, Programme manager of Action aid Ghasiram Panda, child novelist Sarat Kumar Nayak, Dilllip Sahoo, social activist Pravas Samantray, Meghana Sahoo, Rabindra Kumar Mohanty, D Swaruparani and Selvin Bhima Rao participated in the cyclothon.
Social activist Bhaskar Pradhan said that the event also encouraged city riders to augment the implementation plastic ban in the city. This would also enhance the cleanliness drive in the city.
